Polarized light microscopy for evaluation of ETC clearing

We've had trouble evaluating tissue clearing in some objective way, but recently found that differences between tissues appear much clearer in polarized light microscopy (we put two cheap polarizing filters in our stereo microscope..)
The tissues are not index matched, just put side to side on a microscope slide.

I guess the polarizing filter get rid of all the reflections on the surface, and only shows scattered light - uncleared tissue will scatter light more than cleared tissue. Would be interesting to know if other people on the forum observe the same effect!
